Terms of Service

What this is

GetSurfCoach (the “Service”, “we”) is a website that lists surf coaches and provides a video-review workflow between coaches and their students. By using the Service you agree to these terms.

Accounts

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

Coaches are independent

Coaches listed on the Service are independent operators, not employees or agents of GetSurfCoach. We don't vet credentials, certify safety, or guarantee outcomes. Lessons booked through the Service are a contract between you and the coach, not with us. We're not liable for the conduct, qualifications, or results of any coach.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Upload content that infringes someone else's copyright or privacy.
• Upload footage of identifiable people who haven't consented (especially minors).
• Harass, threaten, or impersonate anyone.
• Try to break, probe, or overwhelm the Service or its infrastructure.
• Scrape coach profiles or content for resale.
• Use the Service for anything illegal.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these rules, at our discretion.

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you upload — your videos, photos, comments, drawings, and voice notes are yours. By uploading them you grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display the content to the people you've authorised (coaches see their students' clips, students see clips from their coach, etc.) as necessary to run the Service. We don't use your content for marketing or sell it to anyone.

You're responsible for having the rights to upload what you upload. Don't upload someone else's footage without their permission.

Storage and retention

Video clips are removed from our hot storage 20 days after upload. If you've connected Google Drive, the Drive copy stays in your Drive so the clip keeps playing when you scroll back into older sessions. We send reminder emails at day 6 and day 17 of a clip's life so you know retention is approaching.

Deleting a clip in GetSurfCoach also removes the matching copy from any connected Drive (your own, and your coach's or student's if they connected one). The two stay in sync. Disconnecting Google Drive stops new syncs, but past Drive copies stay yours — manage them in Drive if you want to remove them.

Google Drive integration

If you connect a Google account, you authorise us to write video copies and folders we create in your Drive, and to read and delete those same files, using the drive.file OAuth scope. We cannot access any other files in your Drive. You can disconnect at any time from your profile page or via myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Pricing

Use of the Service is free at the time of writing. We may introduce paid features in the future; if we do, paid plans and their terms will be presented before you opt in.

No warranty

The Service is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind — express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. We don't guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that lost data can be recovered. Back up anything you cannot afford to lose; the Google Drive integration exists precisely to help you do that.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, GetSurfCoach is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for any direct damages is capped at the amount you've paid us in the prior 12 months (i.e. zero if the Service has been free).

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under your local consumer-protection law.

Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time and request account deletion by emailing hello@getsurfcoach.com. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that have been inactive for an extended period. On termination we delete your data per our Privacy Policy; Drive copies in your own Drive are unaffected.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes are posted here and, for registered users, announced by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after that constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Portugal. Disputes go to the competent courts of Portugal, unless mandatory local consumer law gives you the right to sue in your own country.
